Mountain Top Mining Kills
By Al Justice
They call it coal but it's really lives,
the memories of 250 years walking these mountainsides.
The most ancient mountains on earth,
painted with the lives made in equally ancient traditions,
leveled, strangled, destroyed, of their place in supporting blue-green
on it's cosmic ride.
As they mark the twain, their ropes are lengthened,
but few really notice, and fewer really listen,
as a War on poverty became a war using poverty,
and the things we really cared for
became a Walmart property.
The earth in central Appalachia is now on sale.
The earth in central Appalachia is likely to send us all to hell.
Far far away in a state where Gulliver traveled,
where the nine-iron could substitute the CEO's gavel,
"just move the people", became the resolution,
and whoever won't move, we'll simply wait,
for a final solution.
Read
a personal testament of this destructive practice.
